Introvert Cats Canceling Caturday Plans for Some Much-Needed Meow Time

Saturday is finally here, which means it's time to cancel those plans you were already hoping would get canceled for you.

Introvert cats figured out the ideal weekend routine a long time ago. Stay home, get comfortable, keep social interaction to a minimum, and only leave your favorite spot when food becomes involved. No reservations need to be made. Nobody needs to decide where to meet. There's no standing around at a crowded bar wondering how much longer you have to stay before leaving becomes socially acceptable.

For these felines, a successful Caturday requires very little. A warm blanket, a quiet corner, a few treats, and an entire afternoon with nowhere to be will do just fine. The group chat can keep buzzing. Whatever is happening outside can happen without them.

It's hard to argue with that kind of weekend.

Cats never seem concerned that they're missing out by staying home. There's always another nap to take, another patch of sunlight to lie in, or several uninterrupted hours available for staring out the window. That sounds like a pretty solid Saturday compared to putting on real clothes and making small talk with people you barely know.

Introverted hoomans know the feeling. Plans made earlier in the week can sound completely reasonable until Saturday actually arrives. Suddenly, staying home in pajamas with snacks sounds better than anything requiring shoes. Canceling can feel like getting several hours of your life handed back to you.

These cats don't need an excuse to spend their weekend alone, and neither should anyone else. Caturday is precious, the couch is comfortable, and there are only so many hours available for doing absolutely nothing.

Consider this permission to put the phone on silent and spend Saturday doing less socializing and more catnapping.

A phone call really is an introvert’s worst nightmare. There’s a reason texting exists, and it’s so we can take our sweet time figuring out exactly what to say without having to respond on the spot. Nothing raises the heart rate quite like seeing the phone suddenly light up with an incoming call, especially when a perfectly good text would have done the job. Unless it’s an emergency, please respect the introvert code and send a message instead.

If only there were a way to get the full hangout experience without having other people around. We want the snacks, the comfy couch, the good music, and maybe even the feeling that something fun is happening. We just don’t necessarily need anyone else there for it. Basically, give an introvert all the perks of having plans without the part where we actually have to socialize. Now that would be the purrfect Saturday night.

Why is it that introverts are always expected to bend to the whims of an extroverted world? We’re supposed to speak up, come out of our shells, mingle, make small talk, and go to every social event, but apparently asking an extrovert to be quiet for five minutes is where society draws the line. Maybe it’s time to meet in the middle. Introverts will attend the party, but the extroverts have to shut up once in a while. Fair is fair.
